I love how irrelevant tumblr is. like no celebrities on here, no colleagues or family on here, no one’s famous off tumblr or making money, tbh no ones even updating the site like is there even any staff? who knows? it’s bliss

By law, it should be
REQUIRED to have wheelchair ramps at every door
REQUIRED to have elevators in every building
REQUIRED to have braille on every sign
REQUIRED to have auditory options for every text
REQUIRED for children to learn d/Deaf standard sign language in school
REQUIRED that everyone learn how to do CPR and how to detect a stroke
REQUIRED that areas with strobe/flashing lights have proper warnings
Stop calling it disability “friendly” or “accessible”. Start calling it the fucking standard.
One thing one of my profs said that totally changed my viewpoint is that a lot of characteristics that we consider disabilities are only disabilities because society isn’t set up for them. He said that ppl without “disabilities” need accommodations too but society is set up for us so we don’t realize. He used the example that ppl with good eyesight need lights to be able to read and move around, whereas he’s blind and he can read and get around without any lights. He also pointed out that lights, which accommodate ablebodied ppl are expensive and use resources, since that’s an argument a lot of ppl bring up re why they can’t make spaces accessible for ppl with “disabilities” (also I’m not used to talking about this so I hope all the language I used was ok, let me know if I accidentally used an incorrect term)
i honestly believe that with every single person you meet, there is a specific reason that you met them. they will either love you, hate you, lead you, grow you, influence you, hurt you etc… it’s all for a purpose. every single person.
